Kzoo Sings! Recap

kzoosings_recap-01

Hello all!

We have been anticipating the launch of our new monthly event at Miller: Kzoo Sings! The staff here take pride in being part of the Kalamazoo community and we wanted to start an event that brought people together for a night of fun while appreciating the art of singing! Last week we had a fantastic turn out for the first ever Kzoo Sings! event.

We were happy to welcome Larry Lowis to the stage as our Kzoo Sings! music director. He kept our guests entertained while they practiced a stellar rendition of Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline.

We were pleased with the turn out last week! Everyone settled in, grabbed a drink along with some snacks and got to work. We started off running through the song and then refined verse by verse.

Thanks to Brian Lam, our videographer, who put together a great video of our first night at Kzoo Sings! Overall it was a fantastic night.

Want to join us for the next Kzoo Sings? Come to Miller next Thursday, Oct. 6th from 7-9 p.m. and we will be performing California Dreamin’ by The Mamas and The Papas!

Peppa Pig to Make a Big Splash at Miller Auditorium

Peppa Pig Logo

When it comes to children’s theatre, Peppa Pig is not one to disappoint! Yes, this is coming from a 20 year old college student. I did not know much about Peppa Pig upon the announcement of Peppa Pig Live! I had to do my research like any other good marketing assistant would. I sat down in the comfort of my college apartment with a bowl of popcorn and watched an episode of Peppa Pig.

Not bad, I will say, not bad at all.

This college student grew up on children’s classics like Blue’s Clues, Tom & Jerry and Little Bear – so the bar was definitely set high.

I would recommend this show to people who have younger children that they’d like to entertain for a fun-filled night in Kalamazoo! Peppa Pig’s Big Splash is an action-packed live show featuring favorite characters as life size puppets and costume characters! Come join Peppa, George, Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig and more in an all singing, all-dancing adventure full of songs, games and muddy puddles!

If you’d like to see Peppa Pig Live! on October 12 at 6 p.m., you can get your tickets here!

That’s all folks!

Miller Presents The First Kzoo Sings!

By: Clayton Dusendang

Love singing? Come and enjoy performing some of your favorite songs in a casual and fun atmosphere.

Miller presents Kzoo Sings! is a drop in, no-commitment singing event open to anyone who likes to sing new arrangements of pop songs. Miller will host the event once a month on Thursday nights. Most evenings will be held on the Grand Tier level lobby at Miller, but there may be some evenings when we take the show on the road to other locations around Kalamazoo.

Our first Kzoo Sings! event will be on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 7 – 9 p.m.  There will be a small $5 cover charge per person. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. There will be a full cash bar and complimentary snacks.

Here’s how it works: You show up and get a lyric sheet. You will join a group of highs, mids or lows, and by the end of the night, master three-part harmonies for a pop song or two. Sessions may be recorded so you will have something to share!

No music reading ability is required and no auditions will be conducted—everyone is welcome! All you have to do prior to arrival is to listen to the song(s) that will be sung.

For our inaugural Kzoo Sings!, we will be learning and singing Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline!

That’s all folks!
